From Business to Green Mission
Growing up in a business family in Mumbai, Jain was exposed to the challenges of urbanization and environmental degradation early on. His frequent travels to Japan for business introduced him to the Miyawaki technique—a method developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki for creating dense, native forests in small spaces. Inspired by this approach, Jain envisioned bringing this technique to India to combat deforestation and promote biodiversity.
The Genesis of Forest Creators
In 2014, Jain partnered with Dr. R.K. Nair, a fellow environmental enthusiast, to establish Forest Creators. Their first project involved planting 1,500 trees in Umargam, Gujarat, using the Miyawaki method. This successful endeavor laid the foundation for numerous afforestation projects across the country. Together, they have transformed over 40 sites across seven Indian states, including a notable project where they converted a chemical dump yard in Maharashtra into a lush forest of 33,000 trees.
Personal Motivations and Impact
Jain’s commitment to environmental conservation is deeply personal. Witnessing the loss of green spaces in urban areas and the adverse effects of deforestation motivated him to take action.
Beyond Forest Creators
In addition to Forest Creators, Jain has established several other ventures focused on sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Dipen Jain’s journey from a business entrepreneur to an environmental advocate exemplifies how individual passion and collaborative efforts can lead to significant ecological transformations. His work continues to inspire many to contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.
